The BraidBuddi Butt on the Oval Rug
Butting opens up a world of different design possibilities for braided rugs, but it can be very difficult to learn from photos and written directions.
This 35-minute downloadable video tutorial for left-opening braids will show you how to butt a three-strand braid so the join is hidden: where and how to place the an oval rug, a step-by-step how-to demonstration of the joining, both off the rug and on, all the way through lacing it completely on. You will be able to butt around an oval, circle, square, or any other shaped rug. It requires only a 4 loop overlap to complete.
The accompanying file is a diagram of the pin placements, cutting lines, and re-weaving sequence - a quick reference sheet if you just need to refresh your memory at a later time.
Please note, I have included the diagram for a right-opening butt, but the video is entirely left-opening braids. If you are a right-opening braider and feel confident about following along 'in reverse', you may, of course, but I would not recommend it. I am nearly finished with a right-opening video, and will make it available soon.
'I find your rug making instructions very easy to understand and I love your style of teaching. The camera views are wonderful. Your teaching skills made the task [of butting] much easier to understand and to accomplish.' - Joan P.
'I'm soooo excited!!! I just followed your instructions on butting and it was very easy and clear to follow. I started watching and then decided I wanted to try it along with you. It's extremely clear and you took it nice and slow on showing 'how to'. –Nancy S.
